Join us for the City National Bank Annual Business After Hours Block Party on Thursday, May 11 from 5-8 p.m. at the City National Bank Hale Street location in downtown Charleston. 

The City National Bank event is Charleston's largest Block Party and a great kick-off to summer. The event will feature indoor/outdoor bars and food catered by the Bridge Road Bistro.  

Business After Hours is the perfect way to wrap up a busy work week. The event offers social and networking opportunities in a casual atmosphere. The get-togethers are hosted by Charleston Area Alliance members. 

Registration is $15 for Alliance members and $25 for future members. At 5 p.m. May 10 registration prices increase to $25 for Alliance members and $35 for future members.

Invoice is available for groups of 10 or more. No refunds are issued within 48 hours of the event.

May 17    Brown Bag Concert - May 2017
The Brown Bag Concert is a free lunchtime concert in Davis Park, along the corner of Capitol and Lee Streets in Downtown Charleston. The May 17 concert will feature the Ryan Kennedy Trio and the John Adams Middle School Jazz Band.

Sponsored by American Medical Facilities Management, local musicians perform in the park 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month May through October. The Brown Bag Concerts are planned in coordination with American Federation of Musician’s Local 136. 

Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch, grab takeout from a Downtown Charleston restaurant or purchase on-site from local vendors. Tables and chairs will be setup for those attending.

The lunchtime concerts stems from the Imagine Charleston Downtown Redevelopment Plan. The concerts are designed to showcase the talent of local musicians, encourage people to get away from their desk at the lunch hour and put a spotlight on the green space in Downtown Charleston.

May 18    ArtWalk - May 2017
Celebrating its 15th year, Downtown Charleston ArtWalk is a free self-guided walking tour of Charleston’s shops, galleries and businesses featuring regional art and performances. Typically held the third Thursday of each month, participating shops and organizations extend their hours for browsing, shopping and mingling.

For details about this month's ArtWalk, visit the Downtown Charleston ArtWalk website for the monthly participating venue map. Participating shops are located in Downtown Charleston and feature a variety of art – from paintings and sculptures to photography and music.

Attendees can stroll along at their own pace, dip in and out of stores and stop off along the way for a bite to eat at a downtown restaurant. This well-loved family-friendly event takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. and attracts art aficionados as well as folks who just want to get out and try something new.

May 20    Downtown Streetfest - May 2017

Kick off the summer events schedule with Downtown Streetfest Saturday, May 20 along Capitol Street with Shayar. 

Meet up with friends and family between 4:30 and 9 p.m. for live music, food and drinks, kid's activities, pop-up shops and much more. Grab a bite to eat at your favorite downtown establishments, let the kids play and listen to some live music.

The event is presented with title sponsorship support from City National Bank, beverage sponsorship from Capitol Beverage Company and Sprigg's Distributing Company, placemaking sponsorship from GAI Community Solutions Group and the Charleston Convention & Visitor's Bureau, and supporting sponsorship support from the Kanawha County Public Library and Tony the Tailor. 

Downtown Streetfest block parties are also scheduled for Saturday, July 22; Saturday, Aug. 26 and Saturday, Sept. 23.

May 31    Generation Charleston Get Out & Move Social Hour
Generation Charleston, the Alliance's young talent committee, will host Get Out & Move as its monthly Social Hour 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at Haddad Riverfront Park.

When the office closes, change into your athleisure and head down to the levee to discover ways you can get out and move in the capital city. Take part in a group run, hop on a mat for a DJ-powered yoga class, get in the spin with a hula-hoop workout, explore the Kanawha River on a paddle board, move to the beat with Zumba and network with colleagues over healthy snacks. 

Social Hour is free to attend. Guests are encouraged to register online for the event. 

Generation Charleston aims integrate up-and-coming professionals into the Charleston community through community involvement, professional development and networking opportunities throughout the year. Many of the programs are free or low-cost to young talent.
