The Charleston Area Alliance Brown Bag Concerts, a series of free lunchtime concerts in Davis Park, is back for a fourth season 11:30 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17 with the Ryan Kennedy Trio and the John Adams Middle School Jazz Band.

With sponsorship support from American Medical Facilities Management, lunchtimes on the third Wednesday of each month May through October are filled with free music and fun. The Charleston Area Alliance is bringing Davis Park a slate of exciting and dynamic local musicians through a partnership with the American Federation of Musicians Local 136.

“The Brown Bag Concerts builds a strong sense of community and have quickly become a must-attend event,” said Susie Salisbury, the Alliance’s vice president of community development. “Davis Park is a perfect place to sit, relax, enjoy your lunch and listen to live music.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch, grab a brown bag takeaway special from a participating downtown Charleston restaurant or purchase on-site from local vendors. Tables and chairs are setup for those attending.

The Alliance works with local restaurants to promote lunch specials, aiming to boost local restaurant business and enliven downtown. The Brown Bag Concerts are designed to showcase the talent of local musicians, encourage people to get away from their desk at the lunch hour and put a spotlight on the green space in downtown Charleston.

The 2017 Brown Bag Concerts will be 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 20 and Oct. 18. The Burnished Brass Quintet will play in June, Highway Jones & Friends will play in July and the Pennington Project will play in August. In the case of inclement weather, the concerts will be at the Charleston Town Center’s Center Court.
