Congratulations to US Methanol on its groundbreaking ceremony for the company’s methanol production plant: Liberty One in Institute.

The company will begin construction this fall and is expected to start production in 2018. The Liberty One is being relocated from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The plant will produce approximately 200,000 metric tons of methanol per year and create approximately 50 permanent jobs.

“We thank US Methanol for choosing to invest in the Kanawha Valley,” said Matt Ballard, president and CEO of the Charleston Area Alliance. “Natural gas supply growth is renewing the region’s chemical industry, spurring manufacturing growth and creating jobs. US Methanol’s investment, with the investments made in the past few years by Kureha and Optima Chemical, demonstrate the beginning of the revitalization of the chemical industry in our Valley. In the next decade, we expect to see even more growth.”

At Wednesday’s ceremony, Frank Bakker, US Methanol’s CEO, outlined the company’s plans for the plant, its vision for the future and its commitment to being a good neighbor and community member. Headquarters in Charleston, US Methanol was formed in 2014 with a mission to produce and deliver high-quality, US-made methanol to industry customers.
