The more than two dozen businesses that participated in the Charleston Area Alliance inaugural Holiday Window Display Contest have made downtown Charleston a wondrous place to visit this holiday season.

Sponsored by WCHS-TV, the competition has produced enchanting store windows decked out in lights and tinsel trim seemingly around every corner. Participants include downtown businesses with physical storefronts, along with local businesses who gave holiday makeovers to vacant storefronts.

The People’s Choice Award, voted for online by the community, was given to cooporris18 for the company’s display at 817 C Quarrier Street. cooporris18 is a space planning and design firm established by Interior Designer Dave Cooper. The window vignette incorporates a collage of furniture, objects and a Christmas tree crafted from mason jars.

Awards were also given to participants in a variety of specialized categories, including:
  • The Dressmaker’s Closet at 1023 Quarrier St. for Best Use of Merchandising
  • Tops Off Barbershop at 229 Hale St. for Best Theme
  • Oddbird Gift Emporium at 247 Capitol St. for Most Original
  • Tony the Tailor at 822 Virginia St. for Best Overall
The window displays will be on view through the New Year.
