Good New Mountaineer Garage and Goodwill Industries are teaming up for the inaugural Good Grand Prix, a anything that rolls race during the FestivALL Go to Hale Block Party June 24, presented by the Charleston Area Alliance.

Teams of four people (18-years and older) will be racing in relay heats on a blocked-off section of Hale Street. One team member will ride, while another helps push, guide and / or steer toward the handoff with their waiting teammates who will finish the heat in the same fashion. While motorized vehicles are not allowed, teams can use children’s Big Wheels, tricycles, bicycles (no larger than 18”), or create their own “anything rolls” contraption to compete. Helmets are required, and part of the fun.

The Good New Grand Prix is 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24 along Hale Street, between Lee
and Quarrier Streets.

Organize a team of 4 people (18-years or older) and enter. Team entry fee is $60 (with preregistration) or $80 per 4-person team day of (if space allows). You supply your own contraption for the event – design your own (no motors), use a child’s Big Wheel, tricycle or bicycle (no larger than 18”). One “vehicle” per team.

Teams may register by contacting Asley Orr, Good News Mountaineer Garage at 304-344-8445 or gnmg@goodnewsmountaineergarage.com or Kathy McKinley, Goodwill Industries at 304-346-0811 ext. 1033  or info@goodwillkv.com. Team registration fees are tax deductible. In addition to bragging rights and adding to the fun of FestivALL, prizes will be given in the following categories: 1st place team (based on heat time); 2nd place team (based on heat time); best team t-shirt; best team helmet; and best decorated “vehicle.” Awards will be given at the completion of the race heats on the Hale Street stage.

Proceeds will be split between Good News Mountaineer Garage and Goodwill Industries. Good News Mountaineer Garage takes in donated vehicles, repairs them and gives them back to West Virginia families referred through the West Virginia Department of Health & Human Resources West Virginia Works program who need safe, reliable transportation to jobs or job training. Goodwill Industries KV provides employment and education options to people with barriers to employment.

Teams may also choose to donate their bike, trikes or Big Wheels to Goodwill Industries following the event (a donation truck will be on site) and general donations are welcomed, as well.
