Shop, stroll and discover downtown Charleston at ArtWalk, a free self-guided walking tour of downtown shops and galleries, 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17.
Coordinated by the Charleston Area Alliance to support downtown small businesses, more than 20 participating retailers extend their hours and feature a variety of regional art – from paintings and sculptures to photography and music.
Attendees stroll along at their own pace, dip in and out of stores and stop off along the way for a bite to eat at a downtown restaurant. This well-loved family-friendly event attracts art aficionados as well as folks who just want to get out and try something new.
This month’s ArtWalk exhibits include:
Charleston Ballet: Debi Amburgey Ellis creates one-of-a-kind, whimsical, mixed media art using vintage ephemera, acrylic paints, inks and texture mediums designed to bring a smile to your face and a lightness to your heart.
The Art Store: Shades of Summer Feature; Nellie Rose Trunk Show Her work focuses on hand-painted clothing and hand-dyed shibori scarves which are one-of-a-kind, and handmade in small batches.
Clay Center POP UP Exhibit : Leah Gore She is a multi-media artist who gathers and manipulates materials based on location and thereby documents human presence, similar to that of a chef who forages and composes a dish utilizing local ingredients.
Virginia Lee: Lisa Harrison’s art skills have developed over the years, with work done in pencils, pastels, and acrylic.
Rock City Cake Company: Dakota (Cody) Dingess is a self-taught artist who prefers graphite pencils,
charcoal, colored pencils, and markers on paper or wood.
Independent Order of OddFellow’s: Michele Zirkle Marcum is signing her book Rain No Evil based on her free liberation from evil and set in West Virginia at the Oddfellow's Building.
Swiftwater General Store: For ArtWalk this month, we will have Jennifer Monday playing acoustic spiritual music and presenting her new album "discovering me".
Capitol Conference Center: Blenko Glass will be showcasing their glassware at Capitol Conference Center for ArtWalk this month.
Art Emporium: This month we are showing Doug Maxwell: Pictures from Grand Adventures. Faces and places from all over the world.
Romano Gallery: Fort Guerin began painting in his home, defining his style through journaling and drawing inspiration from 1940’s and 50’s vintage western art and imagery.
